ZAMBIA NEEDS $50 BIILLION TO MEET CLIMATE TARGETS BY 2030.
Government says Zambia will require over 50 billion United States dollars to meet its climate obligations by 2030, highlighting the growing pressure on the country to respond to the effects of climate change. Felix Nkulukusa says the funding is critical to help Zambia transition to a climate-resilient economy and protect vulnerable communities.
Speaking through Ministry of Finance permanent secretary for Economic Management Mulele Mulele during the climate Finance conference in Lusaka, Mr. Nkulukusa stressed that climate change is not just an environmental issue but a development challenge affecting the poor, women, and small-scale farmers the most. Meanwhile,Acting Permanent secretary at the Ministry of Green Economy Rainford Simumbwe says Zambia will need an additional 34 billion dollars specifically for climate adaptation between 2023 and 2035.
And in a show of international support, British Deputy High Commissioner Simon Ten Brinke-Jackson has reaffirmed the United Kingdom’s commitment to helping Zambia meet its climate and development goals, raising hope for stronger partnerships as the country works to safeguard its future.
