Special Hope Network Trains Fathers in Disability Care
Special Hope Network Zambia has pledged to continue supporting fathers raising children with disabilities through specialised training programmes, with the latest session held on Sunday in Kabanana Township in Lusaka.
Speaking during a Father’s Day training organised by the organisation, Special Hope Network Manager Doreen Chipepela said the initiative is designed to empower fathers with practical skills and knowledge to better care for their children and build stronger family support systems.
Ms. Chipepela said many fathers struggle in silence and need platforms where they can learn and share experiences.
“We want to remain a beacon of hope for fathers who are carrying the burden of raising children living with disabilities. Through these trainings, we are equipping them with knowledge and practical skills to properly care for their children and create a supportive environment at home and in the community,” she said.
She added that when fathers are actively involved, children living with disabilities are more likely to thrive emotionally and physically.
Meanwhile, Kennedy Mufuzi, a guardian to a child living with cerebral palsy, expressed gratitude to the organisation for its continued support.
Mr. Mufuzi said the Father’s Day training and physiotherapy sessions have made a significant difference in his life and that of his child.
“These programmes have helped me understand my child better and how to care for him. The physiotherapy sessions have also improved his condition, and I am very thankful to Special Hope Network for standing with us,” he said.
The organisation says it will continue rolling out similar trainings in different communities to ensure more fathers are empowered to support their children living with disabilities.
