SHIWANG’ANDU HOUSEHOLDS BENEFIT FROM FOOD SECURITY

One thousand and forty households in Shiwang’andu District of Muchinga Province have benefited from farming inputs under the wetland cropping component of the Food Security Pack Programme. Shiwang’andu District Community Development Officer Lloyd Kalumba says the programme is aimed at enhancing food security among vulnerable but viable households.

Mr. Kalumba says beneficiaries have been divided into two categories, with some receiving cereal and vegetable seed packs containing red onion and cabbage seeds, together with fertilizer for vegetable production. He says another 500 beneficiaries are receiving mainstream farming inputs, with each beneficiary getting two packs comprising D-compound and urea fertilizer.

Mr. Kalumba says the number of beneficiaries in the district has increased from 700 under the previous programme to 1,040 this year. The increase in beneficiaries is expected to support more households with farming inputs and contribute to improved food production and household food security in Shiwang’andu District.
