RAE HAMOONGA APPOINTED COPPERBELT POLICE COMMANDING OFFICER

Commissioner of Police Rae Hamoonga has been appointed Copperbelt Province Police Commanding Officer, replacing Mwala Yuyi, who has been recalled to Lusaka for redeployment.

Mr. Hamoonga assumes the position after serving for eight months as Western Province Police Commanding Officer, following his promotion to the rank of Commissioner of Police.

Prior to his appointment in Western Province, Mr. Hamoonga served as Zambia Police Service spokesperson for nearly four years, becoming one of the country’s most recognisable law enforcement communicators. In 2024, he was recognised by the Zambia Institute of Public Relations and Communication (ZIPRC) as Best Spokesperson for his professionalism, transparency and effective public communication.

During his tenure in Western Province, Mr. Hamoonga led initiatives aimed at promoting peaceful electoral policing, combating stock theft and dismantling criminal syndicates.

Meanwhile, outgoing Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer Mwala Yuyi has thanked journalists in the province for their cooperation during his tenure. In a farewell message, Mr. Yuyi expressed appreciation for the cordial working relationship he shared with the media and urged them to extend the same support to his successor.
