MEDIA URGED TO UPHOLD ACCURACY, ETHICS AND RESPONSIBILITY DURING ELECTION PERIOD.
Information and Media Permanent Secretary Thabo Kawana has urged journalists to uphold accuracy, ethical reporting and responsibility as Zambia prepares for the 13th August 2026 General Election, stressing the media’s vital role in supporting a credible electoral process.
Opening the final Media and Elections Capacity Building Workshop organised by the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) for Copperbelt broadcasting stations, Mr. Kawana said the media must provide citizens with credible, factual and balanced information, particularly during the election period when misinformation can undermine public confidence.
He emphasized that professionalism will strengthen public trust, promote informed participation and enhance electoral credibility.
“Facts must come before opinions, verification before publication and responsibility before sensationalism,” Mr. Kawana stated.
