Nsofwa Urges Political Leaders, Youths to Protect Public Infrastructure During Nominations
Education advocate and alumni leader Mr. Moffat Nsofwa has appealed to political leaders and young people to maintain peace and protect public infrastructure as the country goes through the nomination process.
Speaking on ZNBC’s “The Update” programme, Mr. Nsofwa said schools and other public facilities must not become victims of political violence, warning that destruction of infrastructure affects learners and places an unnecessary financial burden on the country.
He said political activities should not be allowed to disrupt the education of learners, who he described as the country’s future leaders.
“Our learners need to be protected, and the infrastructure needs to be protected,” Mr. Nsofwa said.
Mr. Nsofwa said Zambia cannot afford a situation where public facilities are damaged during elections, only for government and citizens to spend resources rebuilding the same infrastructure after the political process is over.
He urged leaders seeking public office to conduct themselves peacefully and to set a good example for young people.
Mr. Nsofwa also expressed concern that youths are often used as tools of political violence. He said young people must reject violence and instead play a role in safeguarding the country’s peace and development.
He said national development should remain the focus of all political actors, adding that Zambia belongs to young people and future generations.
Mr. Nsofwa, who is the president of the Ex-Kawambwa Boys Alumni Association, has been involved in alumni-led initiatives supporting school development and learner welfare. Publicly available information also identifies him as a leader in alumni efforts connected to Kawambwa Provincial STEM School and the National Alumni Association for Secondary Schools.
He called on young people to remain peaceful and on leaders to focus on unity, education, and the protection of national assets.
