HH Launches Mingomba Copper Project on Copperbelt

President Hakainde Hichilema has officiated at the ground-breaking ceremony for the Mingomba Copper Project in Chililabombwe, marking a significant milestone in Zambia’s mining sector.

The ceremony signals the start of shaft sinking, a critical phase aimed at unlocking one of the country’s promising copper deposits. The Mingomba Copper Project is expected to play a key role in Zambia’s long-term ambition to increase copper production and strengthen its position in the global mining industry.

Speaking during the event, President Hichilema reaffirmed government’s commitment to attracting investment in the mining sector, noting that the industry remains central to economic growth, job creation, and national development.

The ground-breaking forms part of the President’s two-day working visit to Copperbelt Province, where he is engaging with stakeholders and local communities on various development initiatives.

The project is also anticipated to create employment and business opportunities for surrounding communities, as Zambia continues to harness its natural resources for sustainable economic progress.
