Nc’wala Ceremony Key To Unity And Tourism Growth

The Principal Public Relations Officer at the Ministry of Tourism, Nelly Banda, has called on citizens across the country to support and participate in the Nc’wala Traditional Ceremony of the Ngoni people of Eastern Province, saying the event plays a crucial role in strengthening national unity and boosting tourism. Speaking on ZAMCOM Radio’s City Voices programme, Ms. Banda explained that the ceremony, held annually as the first traditional event on Zambia’s cultural calendar, continues to serve as a bridge between culture and development.

“The Nc’wala ceremony remains an important platform for promoting peace and preserving our cultural heritage as a nation,” she said.

Ms. Banda noted that traditional ceremonies do more than celebrate culture; they bring communities together and contribute to the country’s identity. She said government recognises the importance of such events in fostering harmony among citizens while showcasing Zambia’s rich traditions to the world.

She further revealed that Zambia recorded a significant rise in tourist arrivals last year, reflecting steady growth in the tourism sector. According to Ms. Banda, the government has set a target of attracting three million tourists by 2026, a move expected to stimulate economic activity and create employment opportunities in different sectors.

The Ministry has since encouraged the public to embrace traditional ceremonies as part of a broader effort to promote Zambia’s culture both locally and internationally.
