MOB SETS NDOLA WOMAN’S HOUSE ON FIRE OVER WITCHCRAFT CLAIMS.

A 65-year-old woman from Kabushi Compound in Ndola has been left homeless after an angry mob allegedly set her house on fire over accusations of witchcraft. The victim, Jacqueline Mwila, was not at home during the attack and escaped injury.

The incident reportedly followed the death of 34-year-old Esnart Kaunda. During funeral proceedings, mourners performed a traditional ritual known as the “Kikondo,” where a coffin is carried around to identify individuals believed to have caused the death through witchcraft. The coffin reportedly stopped near Mwila’s house, which some residents interpreted as proof of her involvement, prompting the crowd to allegedly burn down her property.

Copperbelt Province Police Commanding Officer Mwala Yuyi confirmed the attack. Mwila only learned about it after a phone call from her son while attending another funeral. She was later assisted by a well-wisher to report the matter at Masala Police Station.

Police have launched investigations into the suspected arson, but no arrests have been made. Authorities have urged the public to avoid taking the law into their own hands and stressed that witchcraft accusations should never lead to violence or property destruction.
