MINISTRY OF HEALTH LAUNCHES NATIONAL HEALTH PROMOTION STRATEGY FRAMEWORK 2024-2026
The Ministry of Health has unveiled the National Health Promotion Strategic Framework 2024–2026, a bold three-year plan aimed at strengthening health education, encouraging healthy lifestyles, and preventing diseases across Zambia.
Speaking during the launch, officials emphasized that the framework is designed to empower communities with knowledge and practical skills to take charge of their own health. The initiative focuses on addressing key health challenges such as non-communicable diseases, maternal and child health, nutrition, hygiene, and communicable diseases, including malaria and HIV/AIDS.
The framework outlines strategies for scaling up public health campaigns, expanding community outreach, and partnering with civil society, traditional leaders, and the private sector. By integrating health promotion into schools, workplaces, and local communities, the Ministry aims to build a culture of wellness and reduce the burden of preventable diseases on the health system.
Permanent Secretary for Health Services, said the strategy reflects government’s commitment to ensuring universal access to health information and preventive services. “Prevention is always better than cure. This framework provides a roadmap for every Zambian to live healthier and longer lives,” she said.
The Ministry also highlighted the importance of collaboration, calling on media houses, community organizations, and faith-based groups to play an active role in disseminating health messages. The ultimate goal, officials stressed, is to achieve a healthier population that contributes to the country’s social and economic development.
The launch of the 2024–2026 Strategic Framework signals a renewed effort by government to prioritize health promotion, placing prevention and community engagement at the center of Zambia’s public health agenda.
