Ministry of Education Officially Launches 2025 JETS and TETS Fair in Lusaka
The Ministry of Education has officially launched the 2025 Junior Engineers, Technicians and Scientists (JETS) and Tertiary Engineers, Technicians and Scientists (TETS) Fair at the National Science Centre in Lusaka.
Speaking at the opening, Permanent Secretary for Educational Services, Dr. Kelvin Mambwe, said the event is a key platform for promoting innovation, engineering, and entrepreneurship among Zambia’s youth.
Held under the theme “Promoting Innovation, Engineering & Entrepreneurship: Accelerating STEM Growth and Competence Development”, the fair aims to harness talent in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to support national development.
Dr. Mambwe said the initiative aligns with the Eighth National Development Plan, Vision 2030, and the competence-based education curriculum, all of which emphasize the need for a skilled and innovative workforce.
He highlighted the inclusion of university students for the first time as a significant milestone, helping to bridge the gap between school-level creativity and advanced research capacity, with potential for market-ready solutions and entrepreneurial ventures.
Dr. Mambwe also announced that the fair will culminate in a two-week boot camp for 60 top learners to further develop their innovations.
He expressed gratitude to all partners and stakeholders, describing the fair as a launchpad for national transformation.
Meanwhile, Director of the National Science Centre, Professor Benson Banda, stressed the importance of embracing home-grown ideas and leveraging Zambia’s natural resources.
He said the country must take the lead in implementing local solutions, noting that young people hold the key to unlocking Zambia’s potential and that their creativity should be central to its development strategy.
