Lungu Family Seeks Permanent Residency in South Africa and Cites Safety Concerns

Former First Lady Esther Lungu has informed the Pretoria High Court that she and her family no longer wish to return to Zambia and are considering permanent residence in South Africa.

In her affidavit, she cited safety concerns and alleged political persecution as reasons for their decision.

She states that the family only returns to Zambia for court appearances related to what they describe as unfounded legal charges.

Esther also revealed that former President Edgar Lungu sought both medical treatment and refuge in South Africa before being diagnosed with terminal cancer.

She adds that he had expressed a clear desire for no involvement by the Zambian government in his funeral arrangements.
