35-Year-Old Woman Arrested for Suspected Drug Possession in Mufumbwe

‎A 35-year-old woman, Grace Banda from Matero in Lusaka, has been taken into custody by police in the North-Western Province for alleged possession of illegal drugs.

‎The arrest occurred at approximately 19:40 on July 12, 2025, during a routine police checkpoint at Kikonge Mine in Mufumbwe District.

‎Police Assistant Public Relations Officer Chipo Kaitisha reported that officers found Banda in possession of 21 bottles of Benylin with Codeine, 162 sachets suspected to contain marijuana, and an additional quantity of loose marijuana stored in a plastic bag. 

‎Authorities also recovered K11,070 in cash from the scene.

‎Ms. Kaitisha reveals that the drugs were discovered inside a Toyota Allion with registration number ALX 5379, which was being driven by Lawrence Siame, aged 26, from Mandevu Compound in Lusaka. 

‎Police have since impounded the vehicle.

‎The case has now been referred to the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) for continued investigation.
