LAZ Calls for Reopening of Courts.

The Law Association of Zambia –LAZ– has called for the urgent reopening of courts, warning that continued closure could affect access to justice and people’s constitutional rights.

LAZ President Arnold Kaluba says the association is concerned over the closure of court premises and the presence of heavily armed military personnel around courts in Lusaka, with no official explanation provided on the reasons, duration or arrangements for continued access to justice.

Mr. Kaluba says the situation could affect urgent matters including criminal proceedings, bail applications and election petitions, and has called on the Judiciary to provide clear guidance while ensuring no person is disadvantaged by the closures.
