ICU Engineering Students Tour Zamtel

Engineering students from the Information and Communications University (ICU) have taken their learning beyond the classroom through an educational tour of the Zamtel Call Centre in Lusaka.

The visit exposed the students to the telecommunications industry, giving them an opportunity to see servers, network connections and other technical systems while interacting with professionals working in the field.

Mr. Miles Jere, a Network Support Engineer at Zamtel who conducted the tour, described the experience as beneficial and said the students were engaging throughout the visit.

“The experience was amazing. I think I liked it. The students were engaging,” Mr. Jere said.

He said more industry visits should be encouraged for students pursuing technical courses such as ICT, as the exposure allows them to see what happens in the industry.

ICU lecturer Mr. Nyangala Pithias said the tour was aimed at exposing students to the ICT industry and helping them understand how concepts taught in class are applied in real time.

Mr. Pithias said classroom learning is largely based on theory, making practical exposure important in helping students expand their knowledge and gain insights into the industry.

Fourth-year Information Security and Computer Forensics student Mahongo Sanji said the tour helped her better understand concepts taught during lectures after seeing the servers and how network connections are made.

She described the experience as amazing, saying the practical exposure gave her a clearer understanding of concepts she had previously encountered in class.
