Govt Calls For Formalisation Of Modelling Sector

The Ministry of Youth, Sport and Arts has called for the formalisation of Zambia’s modelling sector to create stronger structures through which models can engage Government and contribute to the growth of the creative industry.

Permanent Secretary Kangwa Chileshe said Government is ready to support the development of modelling but stressed the need for the industry to establish a properly organised association.

Mr. Chileshe said such an association would provide a structured platform for models to engage Government and would make it easier for the ministry to support the sector, including assistance towards international engagements.

He was speaking when Miss World Zambia Dr. Adah Mushibi and Miss Universe Zambia Mubanga Hatyoka, both under ARM Model Management Zambia, paid a courtesy call on him. They were accompanied by their model coordinator, Irene Changwa.

Dr. Mushibi represented Zambia at the Miss World competition held on September 5, 2026, where she finished among the top 12 contestants globally and was among the top two contestants from Africa.

Ms. Hatyoka is preparing to represent Zambia at the 75th Miss Universe pageant in Puerto Rico and is expected to travel on November 5, 2026.

Mr. Chileshe also proposed partnerships that could introduce creative industry and modelling-related training in schools through Memoranda of Understanding with relevant institutions.

He said Government would continue exploring ways of supporting young Zambians participating in international competitions, including assistance with travel.

Mr. Chileshe said a well-organised modelling sector would create clearer opportunities for young people and provide Government with a stronger platform to support and develop the industry.
