DEC Arrests Two Over 175kg Cannabis Trafficking

The Drug Enforcement Commission has arrested two people in connection with the alleged trafficking of 175 kilogrammes of dry cannabis from Malawi into Zambia.

The suspects have been identified as 39-year-old Moffat Mlotha, a Malawian national, and 53-year-old Rebecca Nsomba, a Zambian national.

The DEC said the two were arrested following investigations into trans-national organised drug trafficking activities.

According to the Commission, the cannabis was concealed in sack bags and a laptop bag and was allegedly transported from Malawi into Zambia through Lumezi District in Eastern Province.

The drugs have since been seized, while the two suspects have been detained in lawful custody awaiting court appearances.

The DEC said the arrests form part of its Operation Kufeza, which is aimed at disrupting drug trafficking activities and protecting communities.

The Commission has thanked members of the public for reporting suspected illicit drug activities and urged people, particularly those living along border areas, to remain vigilant and share information on suspicious activities.
