GOVERNMENT TARGETING MORE PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES IN ACCESSING EMPOWERMENT OPPORTUNITIES.
Government says it is working to ensure that more persons with disabilities access empowerment opportunities aimed at promoting inclusive national development.
Speaking in Lusaka, Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development Permanent Secretary (Administration) Gabriel Pollen said the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) is one of the key initiatives enabling persons with disabilities to access funding and participate in CDF committees to strengthen representation and advocacy.
Dr. Pollen noted that the fund allows beneficiaries to start small businesses such as poultry, tailoring, and trading, helping reduce poverty and dependence.
Meanwhile, Muchinga Province Disability Association Chairperson Godwin Mubanga welcomed government efforts, stating that many persons with disabilities are already benefiting from CDF and other programmes like the Social Cash Transfer.
He also highlighted the importance of CDF bursaries and accessible infrastructure in supporting learners with disabilities.
