MWIIMBU DIRECTS POLICE TO DEAL WITH ‘JUNKIES’ IN TOWNSHIPS.
Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security Jack Mwiimbu has directed the Zambia Police Service to eliminate youthful criminal gangs commonly known as “junkies” from townships. He said the gangs are causing fear among residents through violent acts and sexual offences.
Mr Mwiimbu gave the directive yesterday in Mazabuka, Southern Province, during the 2026 Zambia Police Service Open Day held under the theme “Peaceful Elections: Our Shared Responsibility.” He called on the Inspector General of Police to ensure firm and decisive action is taken to restore safety in communities.
Meanwhile, the minister assured the nation that Government will deliver a free and fair general election scheduled for August 13 this year. He also warned against spreading false information on social media about the health of the Head of State, saying some suspects have already been arrested while others are being pursued.
