Mutati Urges Skills Upgrade In Mining Sector.

Mr. Felix Mutati, Technology and Science Minister, has called for continuous skills development in Zambia’s mining sector to reach the country’s 3 million tonnes copper production target.

He made the remarks during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Hitachi and Technical Education, Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training Authority (TEVETA) in Lusaka.

“To achieve the 3 million tonnes copper production target, we must continuously upgrade skills and embrace technology,” Mr. Mutati said.

He praised Hitachi for supporting government efforts through a new skills training centre.

Ngoza Nkwabilo, TEVETA Board Chairperson, said: “This MoU is a key step in strengthening public-private partnerships in skills development.”

Nobuhiko Saito, President of Hitachi Construction Machinery Zambia, added: “This partnership will enhance apprenticeship programmes and develop technical skills in Zambia.”
