Government Dismisses Claims Of Late Presidential Rider’s Family Being Destitute.

Zambia Police Service has rejected reports suggesting that the late Sergeant Mike Mumba’s wife was evicted from a police camp at State Lodge.
In a statement released earlier today, Police spokesperson Rae Hamonga strongly refuted claims that Mumba's family had been evicted from their residence. The statement clarified that Mumba's officially recognized family continues to live at the State Lodge police camp, where they have resided for several years, and that they remain entitled to government benefits.
The government addressed allegations that Mumba's second wife, 26-year-old Mercy Mwansa, had been left without support. Mwansa in a video had publicly claimed that she was married to Mumba and that she and their child were left in a vulnerable position after his passing. However, the government emphasized that Mwansa was not legally recognized as Mumba’s spouse, as he had not formally acknowledged her in official records.
"Mercy Mwansa has no legitimate claim to government support as she was not legally married to Sergeant Mumba," the statement read. "While it may be true that Mumba fathered one of her children, that alone does not entitle her to state resources or benefits."
The government also criticized what it described as an attempt to manipulate public sympathy through sensationalized and misleading reporting. Officials urged the media to uphold ethical standards and avoid spreading misinformation.
The government is reassuring the public that Mumba’s official family is secure and receiving due benefits, while reiterating that only legally recognized dependents are entitled to such support.
