Four People Killed, 14 injured in Mumbwa Road Accident

Four people have died while 14 others were seriously injured in a road traffic accident that occurred around 13:00 hours at the Mumbwa-ZAF junction along the Mumbwa-Lusaka Road.
Assistant Public Relations Officer, Godfrey Chilabi said the tragic accident involved a Toyota Hiace minibus and a Volvo truck.
Mr. Chilabi stated that the minibus, bearing registration number BLC 3234ZM, was being driven by 34-year-old Peter Mwenda of Garden House, Lusaka.
He was heading towards Lusaka with 16 passengers onboard.
He said the Volvo truck, registered as ARB 730 and BAC 5792T, was being operated by 34-year-old Cephas Chipika of Kafwabi Village in Mumbwa District and was traveling in the opposite direction.
Mr. Chilabi revealed that preliminary findings indicate the accident happened after the minibus driver improperly attempted to overtake another vehicle and ended up colliding head-on with an oncoming truck.
He notes that due to the impact, three unidentified male passengers and one unidentified female passenger died instantly, while 14 others sustained serious injuries and are currently admitted to Mumbwa District Hospital.
Mr. Chilabi adds that the bodies of the deceased have been deposited at Mumbwa General Hospital mortuary pending identification and postmortem.
Both vehicles were extensively damaged and further investigations have been launched.
