Dr Agarwal’s Eye Hospital Launches Mobile Eye Hospital in Munali, Zambia
Dr Agarwal’s Eye Hospital, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Lusaka Central, has officially launched its first mobile eye hospital in Zambia, deployed in Chainda, Munali Constituency, Lusaka. The initiative is designed to bring specialized eye care services directly to the community, particularly to underserved residents.
Officiating at the launch, Minister of Green Economy and Environment and Member of Parliament for Munali, Hon. Mike Mposha, described the project as a life-changing development. He emphasized that the mobile hospital ensures residents have access to quality, affordable, and specialized eye care without the burden of traveling long distances or incurring prohibitive costs.
“Blindness and other serious eye complications are largely preventable when communities have access to timely treatment and accurate information. This mobile eye hospital brings healthcare right to the doorstep of our people, narrowing the gap in access to advanced medical services and supporting the government’s commitment to uplifting lives through better healthcare delivery,” Hon. Mposha said.
He further urged Dr Agarwal’s Eye Hospital to establish structured follow-up programs for patients, stressing that true healing depends on consistent care beyond the first point of treatment. He also encouraged private health institutions to complement government efforts by creating jobs and offering favorable working conditions that retain young healthcare professionals in the sector.
Mr. N.R. Ugandhar, Vice President of International Operations at Dr Agarwal’s Eye Hospital, who traveled from India for the event, hailed the milestone as a reflection of the hospital’s commitment to Zambia. “This mobile eye hospital is not just about extending services; it is about ensuring no community is left behind in the fight against preventable blindness. We are proud to add this facility to our presence in Zambia, and we will continue to innovate to bring world-class eye care to everyone,” he said.
Meanwhile, President of the Rotary Club of Lusaka Central, Dr. Abhishek Raj emphasized the significance of partnerships in improving community health. “Rotary believes in serving humanity, and working with Dr Agarwal’s to bring this mobile hospital to Chainda is a testament to what collaboration can achieve,” he remarked.
Dr Agarwal’s Eye Hospital, which has established itself as a regional leader in ophthalmology, currently operates four branches in Zambia and plans to expand its footprint to ten hospitals in the near future. The mobile unit is fully equipped to provide eye screenings, diagnosis, and treatment for conditions such as cataracts, refractive errors, and other preventable causes of blindness.
The launch drew community members, health workers, and local leaders all welcoming the facility as a major step toward improving healthcare delivery in Munali and beyond. Residents were encouraged to take advantage of the free consultations and affordable treatment services offered by the mobile clinic.
