Corruption Under Mines Corruption Says President HH
President Hakainde Hichilema has emphasized the need for collaboration between the public and private sector to tackle corruption, which is undermining development and eroding trust in institutions.
Speaking at the 2025 anti-corruption conference in Lusaka, President Hichilema explained that corruption is not limited to the public sector alone, but also prevalent in the private sector, citing examples of corrupt practices around contracts and business opportunities.
The Head of State said corruption resources away from essential public services like healthcare, education, and infrastructure, hence contributing to poverty and inequality.
"fighting corruption can lead to long term benefits, including increased popularity, rather than hinder it, especially during election periods," said President Hichilema.
President Hichilema said that the importance of collective action against corruption, involving governments, institutions, and communities to promote development and restore trust.
The president's message comes as Zambia's anti corruption drive gains momentum, with the country seeing improvements in the Corruption Perceptions Index.
"There is a need for a united front against corruption, recognizing that it is a collective responsibility that requires concerted efforts from all stakeholders," He said.
