Lusaka, Zambia – June 4, 2025 — In a landmark moment for Zambia’s health sector, the Minister of Health, Hon. Dr. Elijah Muchima, officially commissioned a new, state-of-the-art hospital wing at CFB Medical Centre today. The $5 million facility is poised to transform the landscape of healthcare delivery in the country, signaling a new era of accessible, high-quality medical services.

Addressing stakeholders at the opening ceremony, Dr. Muchima hailed the development as a vital step towards achieving Universal Health Coverage. “Under President Hakainde Hichilema’s leadership, health is no longer seen as just a service, but a cornerstone of national development,” he said. “This new wing exemplifies how strategic public-private partnerships can drive innovation and expand access to critical services.”

The newly opened wing boasts advanced diagnostic equipment, expanded inpatient and outpatient services, and enhanced critical care units. Its construction created over 200 jobs, with more than 100 long-term healthcare and administrative positions expected to be added in 2025. By 2028, the centre anticipates having 345 permanent roles, contributing significantly to national employment and skills development in the health sector.

“This is more than just a building,” said Mrs. Angela Chanda, CEO of CFB Medical Centre. “It’s a symbol of our commitment to provide world-class care while supporting the country’s broader economic and social development goals. We are proud to stand alongside Government in improving the health and well-being of all Zambians.”

As the ribbon was cut, applause echoed across the grounds—an affirmation of the collective belief that health is wealth. With expanded capacity and a strengthened workforce, CFB Medical Centre’s new hospital wing is set to reduce the burden on public facilities and offer patients a new standard of care. Indeed, Zambia’s health system has taken a bold step forward.
