33 Lusaka Councillors Take Oath, Pledge to Serve Residents

Thirty-three newly elected Lusaka councillors have officially taken the Oath of Office at the Civic Centre, marking the beginning of their service in local governance. The remaining five councillors from Mandevu Constituency are awaiting declaration by the Electoral Commission of Zambia.

The swearing-in ceremony was presided over by Chief Resident Magistrate Nthandose S. Chabala. Lusaka Town Clerk Oliver Muuka congratulated the councillors and reminded them that taking the oath is a legal requirement before assuming their official duties under the Local Government Act No. 2 of 2019.

“The oath is a pledge to promote effective service delivery, safeguard confidentiality, and act always in the best interests of the community,” Mr Muuka said.

He added that leadership is a responsibility entrusted to councillors by the people and must be upheld through discipline, transparency and accountability.

“The confidence placed in councillors must be honoured through discipline, transparency and accountability,” Mr Muuka said.

The Town Clerk urged the new councillors to focus on serving residents and improving service delivery across Lusaka. He also thanked stakeholders who supported the successful conduct of the swearing-in ceremony.

The new councillors are expected to work with Lusaka City Council management in addressing community needs and supporting local development initiatives.
