Advocacy Groups Boost Patient Care and Awareness

Health Permanent Secretary for Technical Services, Dr. Kennedy Lishimpi has praised patient advocacy groups (PAGs) for their vital role in improving Zambia’s healthcare system.
Speaking at the launch of the African Patient Organization Connect (APOC) training workshop, Dr. Lishimpi highlighted how PAGs raise awareness, dispel myths, empower patients, and promote collaboration and innovation.
He commended their efforts in educating communities on early detection of breast, cervical cancer, and other non-communicable diseases, emphasizing that early diagnosis improves treatment outcomes.
Dr. Lishimpi also thanked organizations like the Haemophilia Association of Mauritius and Cancer Society of Namibia for driving the initiative forward.
He noted that advocacy groups help patients navigate healthcare, improve access, and push for better infrastructure and funding.
Their work remains crucial in a resource-limited environment to ensure patients receive the care they deserve.
