ZOONA hits K200 million in Mobile Money Transaction

ZOONA, the mobile money platform has processed around K200 million in mobile money transactions in the country in the first six months of 2017.
Zoona announced the landmark figure, stating that it had recorded a 20 per cent year-on-year revenue growth in Zambia.
Zoona Zambia Director, Lelemba Phiri said this in a statement issued in Lusaka recently.
“This is a result of a very strong performance in the first six months of 2017, during which Zoona has processed over K200 million in mobile money transactions in the country,” Zoona states.
The statement indicated that Zoona had grown its outlet network in Zambia by 30 per cent in the first half of 2017, bringing the total number of outlets in Zambia to more than 1,700, and resulting in the creation of an additional 350 new jobs.
Ms Phiri expressed her delight at the company’s half-year results, noting that female agents across their network had significantly increased.
“We are very pleased to announce such strong results for the first-half of 2017, which reflect the hard work of our team, and the impact Zoona is achieving in making financial services accessible for all.
“We are particularly proud of the number of new Zoona agents set up in the first half of 2017, 60 per cent of which are women and the contribution we are making to supporting vibrant self-sufficient communities across Africa,” Ms Phiri said.
The strong results follow on the announcement of Zoona’s new pricing structure, which featured price reductions of up to 60 per cent, together with the launch of new services.
One of these, Zoona Sunga, which allows consumers to keep money safely aside for future needs or emergencies, has quickly swelled to more than 60,000 users in less than six months.
Zoona’s group management has committed a K5 million investment into the Zambian market to drive continued growth over the next six months.
