ZICTA Gives Mobile Operators 21 Days to Enhance Network Performance
The Zambia Information and Communication Technology Authority (ZICTA) has given mobile service providers and tower companies 21 days to present concrete plans aimed at improving the quality of electronic communication services across the country.
ZICTA Director General, Eng. Collins Mbulo, expressed concern over the declining service standards characterized by frequent call drops, weak internet connectivity, and unreliable service, warning that such issues threaten Zambia’s progress toward digital transformation.
Speaking during a press briefing in Lusaka, Eng. Mbulo said the poor network performance is negatively affecting productivity, innovation, and public confidence in digital systems designed to empower citizens.
He stated that ZICTA has issued binding directives requiring operators and infrastructure providers to enhance network coverage, ensure service continuity, and implement sustainable energy solutions for improved reliability.
Eng. Mbulo further noted that Infratel and IHS Towers have 21 days to submit detailed, time-bound measures to strengthen tower systems and enhance network resilience, warning that failure to comply will attract regulatory sanctions.
