Government Eyes Economic Growth Through Lobito Corridor Partnership
Finance Minister Situmbeko Musokotwane says the government is committed to partnering with the World Bank to ensure the success of the Lobito Corridor project, describing it as a vital driver of Zambia’s economic growth.
Dr. Musokotwane explained that the initiative’s success depends on increased cargo movement from sectors such as mining, agriculture, and manufacturing.
He made the remarks when World Bank Managing Director for Operations, Anna Bjerde, led a high-level delegation on a courtesy visit to his office in Lusaka.
The Minister emphasized the need for growth-centered interventions to reduce dependence on foreign aid and called for effective policy dialogue to ensure productive public spending.
Dr. Musokotwane also cited ongoing efforts to address challenges in the energy sector, including the Zambia–Tanzania interconnector project, while highlighting the government’s commitment to creating a conducive environment for private sector participation.
Meanwhile, Ms. Bjerde praised the Zambian government and President Hakainde Hichilema for maintaining macroeconomic stability and investor confidence amid global economic pressures.
