Over 400 Street Vendors Arrested for Illegal Trading in Lusaka
More than 400 street vendors have been arrested in Lusaka for conducting illegal business activities in the Central Business District between July and October this year.
Lusaka City Council Public Relations Manager, Chola Mwamba, said 426 vendors were apprehended during joint operations by Council and State Police carried out from 25th July to 17th October 2025.
Ms. Mwamba revealed that of those detained, 78 appeared before the Fast-Track Court at the Civic Centre, where they were fined and their goods confiscated in line with Section 355, Cap 88 of the Laws of Zambia.
The Council has reiterated that street vending remains prohibited under Statutory Instrument No. 12 of 2018 and has urged traders to use designated markets, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining a clean and orderly city.
