ZCS takes African Correctional Day outreach to Cancer Diseases Hospital

The donation was made on behalf of Commissioner General Fredrick S.S. Chilukutu by Director of Farms, Deputy Commissioner Crispin Kaonga. The Service also provided transport assistance to an elderly woman reportedly abandoned by her relatives after being discharged from the hospital.

Senior and junior correctional officers also conducted a cleaning exercise at the Cancer Diseases Hospital and the frontage of the University Teaching Hospital. The officers arrived at around 09:30 hours and remained at the hospital until 12:30 hours, interacting with patients and health workers.

Speaking during the outreach, Deputy Commissioner Kaonga and Director of Health Services, Senior Assistant Commissioner Dr Moola Malimba, said African Correctional Day provides an opportunity to reflect on the progress made and challenges facing correctional services across the continent.

The Service said the commemorations also highlight Zambia’s responsibility to provide humane custody, rehabilitation and reintegration while contributing to safer communities. This year’s activities include community-focused programmes, public interactions and sporting activities involving correctional officers and inmates.

Meanwhile, Cancer Diseases Hospital Head of Clinical Care Dr Paul Kafwa thanked the Commissioner General for choosing the hospital for the outreach. “Thank you very much for coming to the Cancer Diseases Hospital. You have put a smile on our faces, and thank you for the donation,” Dr Kafwa said.
