Zambia's Rising Boxing Star
Lusaka, Zambia – From a wide-eyed 12-year-old inspired by boxing legend Esther Phiri to an elite athlete on the international stage, Margret Tembo’s journey in the ring is a testament to dedication and perseverance.
Tembo, a standout in Zambia’s boxing scene, gained prominence after competing in the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games in the 48kg minimum weight category, where she proudly represented her nation. In a historic moment, she was also chosen as Zambia’s flag bearer, an honor she holds dear.
“Boxing has taught me discipline and resilience,” Tembo said, emphasizing the sport’s impact beyond the ring.
Recognizing her talent and potential, the National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) awarded her a scholarship following her performance at the Commonwealth Games. The support has fueled her ambitions of becoming a medalist in future competitions and a two-time Olympian.
For aspiring young athletes, Tembo’s message is clear: “Love what you do, work hard, and stay determined. Success doesn’t come on a silver spoon.”
With unwavering focus and national backing, Tembo continues to inspire a new generation of Zambian boxers, proving that hard work and passion pave the way to greatness.
