Nkandu backs K2.6m deal as ZSIC releases funds for Heroes Stadium roof repair

MINISTER of Youth, Sport and Arts Elvis Nkandu has defended the K2.6 million allocated for the rehabilitation of the damaged roof at the National Heroes Stadium, describing the cost as fair and justified.

Speaking during the cheque handover by ZSIC General Insurance Limited, Nkandu said the figure was arrived at following a credible and professional technical assessment of the damage.

The Minister dismissed concerns from some stakeholders questioning the cost, stating that the works involved are extensive and require specialized expertise to ensure the stadium is restored to acceptable safety standards.

Nkandu emphasized that government remains committed to maintaining key national infrastructure and ensuring that sports facilities are safe and functional for both athletes and the public.

Meanwhile, ZSIC General Insurance Limited has since released the K2.6 million towards the project, paving the way for rehabilitation works to commence.

The National Heroes Stadium, one of Zambia’s major sports facilities, has in recent months faced structural challenges, prompting urgent intervention to prevent further deterioration.
