INAUGURAL SENIOR WOMEN’S IHF TROPHY AFRICA ZONE 6 KICKS OFF IN LUSAKA

The inaugural Senior Women’s International Handball Federation (IHF) Trophy Africa Zone 6 has officially kicked off in Lusaka, Zambia, with the tournament being hosted at the Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC).

‎The competition has brought together eight countries from across the Africa Zone 6 region, with host nation Zambia joined by Eswatini, Lesotho, South Africa, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia and Zimbabwe.

‎The tournament provides an opportunity for senior women’s handball teams to compete at regional level while showcasing their skills, talent and determination on the court.

‎As host nation, Zambia is looking to make the most of home advantage as it competes against some of the region’s established handball teams. The tournament is also expected to provide valuable competitive experience for players and technical teams.

‎The games are running from Tuesday, 15th September to Saturday, 19th September 2026, with the participating teams competing throughout the five-day tournament at the OYDC in Lusaka.

‎The inaugural competition is also expected to contribute to the growth and development of women’s handball in the region by creating opportunities for players to gain international-level exposure and experience.

‎With eight nations taking part, the tournament brings together players and officials from different countries, creating an opportunity to strengthen regional sporting relations through handball.

‎The competition continues at the OYDC as the participating nations battle for honours in the inaugural Senior Women’s IHF Trophy Africa Zone 6.
