ZAMBIA’S INFLATION RATE INCHES UP AHEAD OF NEW YEAR

Zambia’s annual inflation rate rose to 11.2% in December 2025, ending a period of gradual easing. According to official figures, this increase was driven largely by higher non-food prices, including clothing, transport and utilities.

While food price inflation eased slightly, reflecting slower increases in staples like cereals and meats, the uptick in non-food costs pushed overall inflation higher than in November. Economists warn that households could feel continued pressure on their budgets in early 2026.

Government officials say they are monitoring price trends closely and exploring policy measures to support citizens facing rising living costs. Analysts say stable inflation will be critical for economic confidence this year.
