Zambia Mourns Rising Football Star Theresa Musatila

Zambia is mourning the loss of former under-20 women’s national team player Theresa Musatila, who died in Kitwe after a short illness. The young footballer, who also featured for Zesco Ndola Girls, passed away recently, with the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) confirming the news today. Her death has shocked the local football community, where she was widely regarded as one of the country’s promising talents.

FAZ president Keith Mweemba expressed deep sorrow over Musatila’s passing, describing her as a player with great potential who had risen through the national team ranks. He noted that she had represented Zambia at both under-17 and under-20 levels and was on track to become a future Copper Queens player. Mweemba extended condolences to her family, her club, and the broader football fraternity.

Musatila’s football journey included a notable milestone in 2023 when she was selected for a one-year La Liga sponsorship program in Spain. She earned the opportunity alongside Esther Musialela and Jessy Zulu after their impressive performances at the 2022 COSAFA Under-17 Region Five tournament, highlighting her talent on an international stage.

Her untimely death marks a significant loss to Zambian football, particularly at a time when she was expected to transition into the senior national team. Tributes continue to pour in as teammates, officials, and fans remember her as a dedicated and promising player whose career was cut tragically short.
