OVER 100 ATHLETES SET FOR SOUTHERN AFRICA JUDO CHAMPIONSHIP IN

Zambia is set to host the Southern Africa Judo Championship, with 112 athletes from seven countries confirmed to compete in the regional tournament aimed at promoting sports development and regional integration. The competition will bring together judokas from Malawi, Zimbabwe, Botswana and South Africa, among other participating nations, in an event expected to showcase top talent in the sport.
Association Administrative Director Carol Chipupu said Malawi will field 40 athletes, Zimbabwe 30, Botswana 25, while South Africa is expected to send 16 competitors. She added that an additional 30 judokas drawn from various refugee settlements will also participate, highlighting the inclusive nature of the championship.Ms Chipupu explained that preparations for the tournament are progressing well, stating that the Judo Federation has made significant strides toward successfully hosting the regional event.
The championship is expected to strengthen sporting ties in Southern Africa while providing athletes with competitive exposure and development opportunities.
