Zambia Lifts Maize Export Restrictions to Boost Farmer Incomes.

The Ministry of Agriculture Zambia has announced the removal of restrictions on the export of maize and mealie meal, allowing traders and farmers to access both local and international markets. The decision is aimed at improving incomes and expanding opportunities within the agriculture sector.

The move is expected to benefit small-scale farmers by providing competitive market access, stimulating agro-processing activities and supporting overall economic growth. Authorities say the policy will also contribute to national food security through regulated trade while ensuring farmers fully benefit from their production. 

Exporters are required to obtain permits through the Zambia Electronic Single Window and follow established procedures at designated exit points. Government has urged stakeholders to comply with all regulations to ensure smooth and efficient trade operations.
