Zambia Deploys Twelfth Battalion to Central African Republic

Zambia has deployed its twelfth battalion of soldiers to the Central African Republic (CAR) to undertake peacekeeping duties under the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA). The first group of troops departed Lusaka at 06:55 hours today through the Zambia Air Force Base at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport.

Speaking during the send-off ceremony, Zambia Army General Staff Brigadier General Francis Kasempa urged the troops to strictly adhere to the United Nations mandate and maintain high standards of professionalism throughout their mission. Brigadier General Kasempa said Zambian troops have, for more than a decade, demonstrated professional conduct, protected vulnerable groups and contributed to infrastructure development through Quick Impact Projects. “I urge you to remain disciplined, professional and committed to the mandate entrusted to you by the United Nations,” Brigadier General Kasempa said.

Meanwhile, Director General of the Peace Operations Branch, Brigadier General Munalula Waluka, welcomed the final group of ZAMBATT ELEVEN troops, who completed their year-long tour of duty yesterday. Brigadier General Waluka commended the returning personnel for their sacrifice, dedication and discipline in maintaining peace in the region. He also thanked the troops for their service and contribution to peacekeeping efforts during their deployment.
