Seven arrested over murder of teenage motorbike rider in Solwezi

Police in Solwezi have arrested seven people in connection with the murder of 17-year-old motorbike rider Isaac Kabwita. Kabwita went missing on August 25, 2026, after allegedly being hired by 25-year-old Kennedy Sapato, before his body was later discovered in the Forestry Farming Block, about 15 kilometres from Solwezi.

Police say Sapato was arrested in Chililabombwe on August 31 and later led investigators to the suspected crime scene. Kabwita’s body was found in a decomposed state with his hands and legs tied and concealed under a bush thicket. Police also recovered his red Bajaj Boxer motorbike and mobile phone, while the body has been deposited at Solwezi General Hospital Mortuary pending a postmortem.

The other suspects are Loveness Sapato, Juliet Kipayeni, Prisca Nkolomba, Paton Mbewe, Simon Kapiji and Paul Kalimoto. Police allege the suspects were involved in the murder or handling of the stolen motorbike, and investigations are continuing.
