DEC Arrests Four Over Drug Trafficking
The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has arrested four people and seized various illicit drugs in separate operations conducted in Muchinga, Southern and Lusaka Provinces.
In Muchinga Province, 59-year-old Binwell Chanda was arrested in Mafinga for allegedly trafficking 18.5 kilogrammes of dry cannabis. In Southern Province, 51-year-old Selina Mwalama was arrested after being found with 4.6 kilogrammes of cannabis, while 28-year-old Lucky Siabusu was arrested for allegedly attempting to bribe officers with K5,000 to secure Mwalama’s release. Siabusu has since been handed over to the Anti-Corruption Commission.
Meanwhile, at the Chirundu One-Stop Border Post, DEC officers arrested 37-year-old Congolese national Modeste Wetu Kankonde for allegedly trafficking 2.3 kilogrammes of cannabis. The DEC says all four suspects are in lawful custody awaiting court processes and has warned that operations against drug trafficking, particularly across borders, have been intensified.
