Secondary School Teachers of Zambia gives land to its Members

SECONDARY School Teachers Union of Zambia (SESTUZ) has acquired 50 by 40 meters of land in High Cost residential area in Chinsali District in Muchinga Province. The move is aimed at empowering its member teachers with land to build their own houses. The initiative has elated Teaching Service Commission.
And Teaching Service Commission Chairperson Stanely Mhango has commended the teacher union for the initiative Mr. Mhango further said the initiative will go a long way in alleviating housing challenges teachers are faced with. He also said that the gesture will add value to the status of a teacher in society. Mr. Mhango also urged the union to continue motivating its members country wide. Mr. Mhango said this in Chinsali when he witnessed the handing over of the land.
And Muchinga Province Permanent Secretary Jobicks Kalumba has since urged the beneficiaries to immediately start developing the plots. Dr. Kalumba also appealed to SESTUZ to come up with more income generating ventures to benefit the general membership.
And SESTUZ General Secretary Sitibekiso Wamuyuwa disclosed that his union has acquired huge pieces of land from local authorities countrywide for redistribution to the members.
Mr. Wamuyuwa said SESTUZ is indebted to the local authorities and other stakeholders who came on board to support the idea which he stated will transform the lives of the general membership.
Waitwika Secondary School head teacher Hilia Chalibonena said the SESTUZ Land Empowerment Policy will enable teachers construct their own houses which they can put on rent once transferred.
