PRESIDENT HICHILEMA REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO STUDENT WELFARE AND EDUCATION

President Hakainde Hichilema has expressed gratitude to students across the country, regardless of whether they are enrolled in public or private institutions, stressing that all students are equal and deserve equal opportunities. The Head of State also acknowledged State House management for organising the engagement, reiterating that State House belongs to the Zambian people and that he is only there by virtue of the mandate given to him by the people.

 

“State House belongs to the people of Zambia. I only happen to be elected to work from there.” He said.

 

President Hichilema said students play an important role in Zambia’s economic development and reaffirmed the need to legally protect access to education.

He said making education a legal entitlement would help promote equality and expand opportunities for future generations. “Education is not just an investment in an individual; it is an investment in the future of the country.” He said.

The President further disclosed that Government is exploring ways of expanding the bursary programme beyond public institutions to ensure more students have access to educational opportunities.

 

He said Government is also placing greater emphasis on entrepreneurship, economic empowerment and skills development as key avenues for creating employment and expanding opportunities for young people. President Hichilema said empowering students with education, practical skills and entrepreneurial opportunities will enable them to contribute meaningfully to the economy and build sustainable livelihoods.
