POLICE REPORT ISOLATED INCIDENTS AFTER PEACEFUL ELECTIONS

The Zambia Police Service has commended citizens, political parties, candidates and other stakeholders for the peaceful manner in which they conducted themselves during the August 13, 2026 General Election.

Inspector General of Police Graphel Musamba said while the elections were generally peaceful, isolated incidents were recorded in Lusaka, Kalomo, Luwingu, Kasama, Isoka, Mafinga, Chingola, Mkushi and Kabompo. Police have since arrested suspects linked to some incidents, including the alleged murder of polling agent Lovemore Chishima in Matero and the recovery of offensive weapons from six suspects in Lusaka.

The Service has urged candidates and stakeholders to avoid announcing or sharing unverified results, stating that the announcement and declaration of presidential results is the responsibility of the Returning Officer. Police have called on citizens to remain calm, avoid violence and continue safeguarding peace during the post-election period.
