ECZ RESUMES RESULTS ANNOUNCEMENT AFTER SECURITY THREAT CONTAINED
The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has lifted the suspension on vote counting and announcement of results for the August 13, 2026 General Election.
ECZ Chairperson Mwangala Zaloumis says the security threat that led to the suspension has been contained, with the Commission set to announce the first batch of results at 22:00 hours on August 14, 2026.
Ms. Zaloumis has urged stakeholders to rely on verified results issued by the Commission, following an earlier suspension triggered by reports of violence targeting polling staff and theft of marked ballot papers from ballot boxes. The suspension was made in line with Section 67(3) of the Electoral Process Act No. 35 of 2016.
