POLICE CONDEMN POLITICAL VIOLENCE, ORDER ARREST OF SUSPECTS

The Zambia Police Service has condemned recent incidents of political violence reported in Shibuyunji, Livingstone and Luampa districts, describing the acts as unacceptable. Inspector General of Police Graphel Musamba has directed police commanders in the affected areas to ensure all those involved are arrested and brought before the courts.

The Police Service has also announced a review of the public order operation conducted in Mongu and Kalabo during the Tonse-Pamodzi Alliance campaign rally, where tear smoke was discharged. The review will assess whether the operation was conducted in line with the law and established policing standards.

Meanwhile, police have dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that a person died during the Mongu incident, stating that no death was recorded. The Service has urged political parties and members of the public to reject violence, uphold the rule of law and maintain peace as the country heads towards the August 13 General Election.
