Nkandu Says Government Will Not Interfere in Chipolopolo Coach Appointment.
Minister of Youth, Sport and Arts Elvis Nkandu says government will not interfere in the appointment of the men’s national football team coach, stating that the responsibility lies with the Football Association of Zambia.
Mr. Nkandu said this following the announcement by FAZ that George Lwandamina has been appointed interim head coach of the Zambia National Football Team.
He explained that while FAZ is responsible for appointing the national team coach, government’s role is to support the team, including facilitating the payment of salaries for the technical bench.
“The appointment of national team coaches is the responsibility of FAZ and as government we respect that mandate,” Mr. Nkandu said.
He added that government will not oppose decisions made by FAZ regarding the management of football in the country.
“As government, we will not interfere in football matters. Our role is to provide the necessary support to ensure the national team performs well,” he said.
Mr. Nkandu further stated that government will continue working closely with FAZ to ensure the national team is adequately supported as it prepares for upcoming international competitions.
“We will continue collaborating with FAZ to ensure the team has the support it needs as it prepares for international assignments,” he said.
