Mumba Urges New MPs to uphold Character.

Dr Mumba said political experience was acquired over time and advised younger MPs to seek guidance from experienced leaders.

“Political experience is acquired over time, but character is fundamental to provide effective leadership,” Dr Mumba said.

He urged experienced leaders to mentor younger legislators and help them navigate the realities of political life.

According to Dr Mumba, the 40 constituency MPs appointed under the new proportional representation system had been given an important opportunity to serve the country.

He said the new legislators must recognise that their representation carries a strong sense of responsibility.

“Serving the country and occupying a seat in the National Assembly is a great honour,” he said.

Dr Mumba urged the MPs to put national interests first and ensure that their behaviour outside Parliament did not undermine the institution.

He further called on ministers, permanent secretaries and civil servants to help acquaint the new MPs with parliamentary processes and expectations.
