Kitwe District Education Board Secretary Allan Kaoma confirmed the incidence through a telephone interview yesterday. Mr. Kaoma said the fire was caused by an electrical fault from a poor connection.
Mr. Kaoma said some wires were poorly done which supply power from one block to another. The wires were small and could not provide resistance hence started melting until it reached the other block through the ceiling board.
“I can confirm that one classroom at Mukuba Secondary School has been gutted. The classroom is used by grade 10 pupils and no other property has been burnt apart from the roof of the classroom itself.” Mr. Kaoma said.
The fire was quenched by Kitwe fire brigade officers who rushed to the scene.
Investigations by a combined team of the fire brigade officers and the state police have since started.
